“Keith Dunn and McGuffey’s Restaurant,” and answer the following questions in about one page:
a. What would you define as the major underlying problem. Remember: Most solutions do not work because managers only look at the symptoms, not the underlying problem. There may be several problems, but pick one that you wish to discuss. Explain why this is the major underlying problem, using definitions in the text.
b. List three solutions that might be useful in solving the problem. (You do not need citations for this part of the answer).
c. Which one would you try first and why? (You do not need citations for this part of the answer).
Define power and motivation. You are a manager, and you must get a particularly hot and stressful task completed within the next hour. You realize that those who will carry out the task have the skills to complete it, but they may resist completing the task. Your boss has told you that this task is essential to complete a group of tasks that will earn the firm a great deal of money. Your subordinates earn a moderate income, and there is no bonus for performing the task. In about one page of description, how would you get the task done?
“Can Larry Fit In?” In about one page, identify the underlying problem and what you, as the Office Manager, would do to resolve this situation. Be sure to make specific recommendations, as though you were consulting with the Office Manager. Citations help make you more credible as a consultant or peer manager.

a. Should I (as the Plant Manager) involve others? Why or why not? Be specific.
b. If I involve others, should I form a team to allow them to make the decision or should I consult them individually and make the decision myself? Why or why not? Be specific.
