Monel Ltd is a medium-sized company based in China. The company manufactures high quality electronic devices and sells them exclusively through its own website. Monel is considering expansion into Europe for the first time. Monel has relatively limited financial and human resources to use for this expansion and is therefore considering whether to run its European operations as a 'virtual' company, with Monel only operating the European website.

Question:

Explain the concept and features of virtual organisations, using Monel as an example. Discuss the benefits and drawbacks to Monel of running its new European operations as a virtual organisation.
