Learning Outcome 1: Reflect upon, identify and articulate the importance of cultural awareness and understanding of intercultural competence
Learning Outcome 2. Explain and apply a range of theories needed to successfully live together in a culturally diverse world.
Learning Outcome 3. Identify and apply skills in mindfulness and critical reflection and awareness that supports your own development of intercultural competence.
Learning Outcome 5. Communicate orally and in writing an awareness and understanding of intercultural competence.
Context:
Reflective writing is evidence of reflective thinking, and is a process where you can learn from your experiences. In particular, the reflective journal assessment in this subject supports you to explore and articulate your intercultural learning and its relevance to your personal, social and professional life.
Instructions:
You will complete three reflective journal entries for this subject addressing the prompt (topic) given by your lecturer for each of the reflections.
For each journal entry, write at least 1000 words, drawing specifically from the subject's learning resources (please indicate by using APA referencing). For each journal entry, you are required to:
Write a reflective piece that highlights your learning arising from your engagement with the subject's resources and learning activities.
Effectively communicate your ideas and perspectives to demonstrate your learning (referring to authors using APA referencing).
Articulate the significance of your learning (why it matters).
Identify how you can use your learning, especially in relation to personal, social and professional contexts: How will my learning influence my future behaviour or practices?
Critical Reflection A: Modules 1 and 2
Prompt for Assessment 1 - Reflection Part A:
"Reflect on the comparison of the essentialist and non-essentialist view of culture and analyse the role of language and cognition in that context?"
Your reflection must address and critically analyse those relevant theories and concepts studied as part of this subject. You must provide evidence from the class readings to clearly justify your line of argument (use citations).
This reflection is not a summary of the class readings. The focus is on you carefully identifying, applying and discussing relevant concepts and theories in relation to specific examples to illustrate your understanding of the modules' content.
Critical Reflection B: Modules 3 and 4
Prompt for Assessment 1 - Reflection Part B:
"Reflect on the interconnections between identity and ethnocentric/ethno-relative behaviour.
You need to demonstrate how and why an informed understanding of multiple identities is crucial to successfully communicate across cultures. Your reflection should draw on the relevant concepts of identity studied in class, such as individual, group, cultural and national identities."

Identify and discuss the different ways intercultural conflict can be addressed and overcome to achieve successful communication in multicultural societies. You should focus your reflection on an analysis of how and why the concepts, models and strategies of cultural awareness and intercultural competence are of key importance in becoming a good global citizen in the contemporary globalised world.
Your reflection must address and critically analyse those relevant theories and concepts studied as part of this subject. You must provide evidence from the class readings to clearly justify your line of argument.
