Your friend Joan, a 23-year-old, 5ft 10 inches and weighs 100 lb student, is also diagnosed with hypertension and hyperthyroidism. Both Tom and Joan are patients of Dr. Hype. Joan knows you are student of A&P, so Joan wanted you to explain why Tom's was given diuretic, instructions to reduce salt intake and increase his daily exercise, while Joan was given a beta blocker instructed to reduce calcium intake and monitor her calcium levels closely but was not given an exercise regimen. She wants to know if Dr. Hype is a quack! A. Explain how Mr. Tom's and Joan's treatments will affect their hypertension.
