1. An electron of a hydrogen atom in an excited state makes a transition from the n = 5 level to the n = 2 level.
a. Does the atom emit or absorb a photon during this process? Explain your reasoning.
b. Calculate the wavelength of the photon involved in the transition. Express your answer in SI units.
So for a I got: During this process the atom emits a photon. This process is describing an energy level jump of the electron from a n=5 level to a n=2 level. This loss of energy results in the emission of a photon and for b got: 436.2 nm
Does this make any sense? I just want to double check my answers.
