Question: Medicine and Clinical Studies According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, approximately 54.6% of all U.S. citizens test positive to one or more allergens. Between 9% and 16% suffer from hay fever. A random sample of people who suffer from hay fever was obtained, and each was treated with either a conventional antihistamine or butterbur extract. The number of subjects who experienced relief from hay fever was recorded for each group. The resulting data are given in the following table.

a. Compute the sample proportion of people who experienced relief for each treatment.

b. Conduct the appropriate hypothesis test to determine whether the proportion of people who experience relief due to the antihistamine is different from the proportion of people who experience relief from butterbur extract. Use a = 0.01.
