A rotary vacuum filter similar to the one at right filters cell broth at a rate of 3000 liters/h. The drum rotates at 0.667 rpm and the fraction of the filter area wetted by the slurry is 0.25. The viscosity of the broth is 1.5 cp, the particle density is 15 g/liter and the specific cake resistance (a) is 8.5x1010 cm/g. The diameter of the filter drum is 1.25 m and it length is 1.5 m. Calculate the required pressure drop across the filter and the pressure inside the filter drum.
