Question: Manufacturing and Product Development Bittersharp apple cider is made from apples that contain more than 0.45% malic acid. It is important for the variance in malic acid content to be small, because large variability may cause the resulting cider to be too sharp. In preparation for making a batch of cider, a random sample of 20 Foxwhelp Bittersharp apples was obtained, and the malic acid content in each was measured. The sample variance was s2 = 0.42.
