Let's say we have two groups, group 1 = a sample of athletes & group 2 = a sample of non-athletes, who are asked about the number of hours they exercise per day. Group 1 had a mean of1 = 4.5 and Group 2 had a mean of 2 = 1.7. Sample size for each group was N1 = 9 and N2 = 9. Standard deviations for group 1 and group 2 are s1 = .9 and s2 = 1.3. We want to know if the sample means differ from one another and decide to do independent-samples t test. Please compute the observed t statistic by hand. Report the t statistic using three decimal places.
