Question: A company produces pillows from cotton., With the current machinery set up, it produces 240 pillows per100 kgof cotton. At present it procures100 kgcotton per day, and each pillow requires three labor hours to process. The company is planning to recruit a procurement professional who can buy better quality cotton at the same cost. If this is the case, the company can increase production to 260 pillows per100 kgof cotton, and the labor hours required will increase by eight hours per day (for the procurement professional).

a. Compute the labor productivity for the present scenario when no procurement professional is involved.

b. What will the labor productivity be if the company hires the procurement professional? Suppose that the company pays$12per hour for each worker who makes the pillow. The procurement professional is paid$24per hour. The cotton cost is$10perkg(regardless of who purchases them).

c. Compute the multifactor productivity for present approach, using pillows per dollar cost (labor+materials).

d. How does the multifactor productivity change if the procurement professional is hired?

e. What is the difference between total factor productivity and multi-factor productivity?
