Consider that a benzene molecule could fit nicely within a two-dimensional square box with each side having length of 5 degree A. a. Calculate the four lowest energy levels for an electron confined to the 5 degree A square box, i.e., for (nx, ny)=(1,1); (1,2) etc. in units of J. b. Using the 2-D electron box model to represent the molecular orbitals of the pi electrons , draw an energy diagram for the ground electronic state configuration of these pi electrons using the energy levels calculated above. (Remember Pauli exclusion principle)
