Q1. An object (A) of mass 0.2 kg strikes a second object (B) of mass 0.35 kg that is initially at rest. Mass A has an initial velocity of +3m/s.

A) Suppose that the collision is entirely inelastic. Compute the final state for these objects. Calculate the total energy for this system before and after the collision. Is mechanical energy conserved? If not, account for the discrepancy.

B) Now suppose that the collision is now entirely elastic. Calculate and describe the final velocities for two objects A and B. (the collision is in one dimension)

Q2. To monitor the breathing of the hospital patient, a thin belt is girded around the patient's chest as in the figure below. The belt is a 220 turn coil. When the patient inhales, the area encircled by the coil increases by 41 cm2. The magnitude of earth's magnetic field is 50.0 µT and makes an angle of 30° with the plane of the coil. Assume a patient takes 1.50 s to inhale, find the magnitude of average induced emf in the coil during that time.
