The typical K+ ion concentration in the fluid outside a cell is 0.005M, whereas that inside a cell is 0.15M. In active transport, cells use free energy stored in ATP to move ions in the direction opposite to their spontaneous direction of flow. Calculate the cost in free energy to move 1mol K+ through the cell wall by active transport. Assume no change in K+ concentrations during this process.
