We discussed and studied four waiting line models. A particular enterprise follows the FIFO discipline and observes that arrivals are time distributed according to the Poisson model. Currently at this enterprise, customers are served by one agent from a single queue. Each customer is serviced by a single server in single phase fashion. By observation, management has determined that the average arrival rate is nine customers per hour, and servers operate at the average rate of 11 customers served per hour. Management is concerned by the higher than desirable average time spent in the waiting line, WS. Management believes that customers are being lost. Management needs to know what effect adding a second service line will have on the average time spent in the waiting line. Hint: Show work to obtain partial credit.

Identify the queuing models in each scenario.

Compute the average number of customers in line for both scenarios. Note: Use formulas or Waiting Line Table.

Find the average wait time in each queue system.

What benefit is available by adding the second service line? What other factors should management consider?
