Lead(II) sulfide, is the principal source of lead. To acquire the lead, the ore is first heated in the air to form PbO.
PbS + 3/2 O2 ----> PbO + SO2 Change of Heat: - 415.4 kJ
The oxide is then reduced to metal with carbon.
PbO + C -----> Pb + CO Change of Heat: + 108.5 kJ
Compute change of heat for the reaction of one mole of lead(ll) sulfide with oxygen and carbon, forming lead, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide
