When breathing in, respiratory muscles expand the chest cavity, allowing the chest to expand. This allows fresh air to enter the lungs. Correspondingly, when breathing out, respiratory muscles compress the chest cavity, pushing air out of the lungs. Explain how this process corresponds with what you would expect from the gas laws. Also, describe how the gas laws would predict that it is more difficult to breathe at higher elevations, and explain and support your response. Finally, based on the gas laws, is it easier to breathe in a cold or hot environment, as compared to room temperature? Explain and support your response.
Calculate the molar mass of (a) a gas that has a density of 1.98g/L at STP and, (b) an unknown liquid for which 3.33 liters at STP is found to weigh 10.88g
