Compose a meal for analysis. Note this doesn't have to be a healthy meal. We want to look at what we typically eat or what we could eat for a meal and give it an assessment.

1. Share your meal of at least 2 food items.

2. What's your rationale for grouping these foods together?

3. What's the nutritional content of these foods? Visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) website (opens in a new window), and search for your food items. In the search box, type your food item (for example, "apple") and the database will provide you with nutritional information about your food item. If you are not able to locate your favorite food in the USDA database, select another item and search for that food item. Be sure to look for the nutritional value (vitamins, minerals, protein, sugars, and fats) and calorie content of your food items and total meal.

4. Does it address a balance of food groups?

5. Is your meal healthy? Why or why not?
