Students are to are to prepare and develop an overview and critical analysis of one component of the Alternate Federal Budget (AFB) document on the Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) website. A link to the Alternate Federal Budget is found here:
You will review the AFB document and select one AFB item to focus on for this assignment. The item is described at length in the document. Using this description, you will form an overview and critical reflection of this budget item. The summary will be marked using the following criteria:
Provide a summary of the details provided by the AFB authors for your chosen item.
Provide a critical analysis of the chosen AFB item. Discuss how and why the policy proposed in the
AFB represents a positive or negative policy shift. Provide a rationale for your analysis supported by research- based evidence. The critical analysis will link your chosen item/topic to at least three social policy concepts or themes discussed in this course. Provide a discussion why you think each concept applies to the analysis of this item.
Review the taxation section of the AFB document (see AFB table of contents). Discuss your views and opinions about the taxation strategies proposed within the AFB. How are these strategies reflective of political ideology? What other funding strategies could alternatively be employed? Support your opinions with research-based evidence.
Discuss the specific connections between economic development and imperialism in the latter half of the 20th century.
