Agree or disagree? In today's complex information landscape, just about anything that contains information can be considered a source" (p. 27).
The article Learn What You Don't Want by Jamie Edwards is explaining that students who do not know what they want to do with their lives or even students who have an idea or even clear idea can do to find out or become positive of their career can do. Many people go into school with the idea that they know they want to do something specific and confident this is what they want. After going through a couple years, even one year of college and have a whole new view on the world and what they want to do. In Learn What You Don't Want, Edwards stated, "It shouldn't be about salaries and job security. I needed to find personal attachment" (Edwards 41). This statement stuck out because it is completely true. Some people may make millions at their jobs, but they usually are not happy because they went with the money package. Being able to go to work and love what you do is job security itself. Having the right resources and support make all the difference especially throughout our entire college career. At the end of this article Edwards said, "My takeaway is that sometimes you have to learn what you don't want in order to find out what you do want" (Edwards 42). This statement is powerful because it is true, this is saying it is not wrong to change your mind, it is perfectly fine because it will help you succeed.
Choosing a career and what your future will be like is absolutely one of the most stressful decisions making we could ever come across. When choosing a career, we put in factor what our future would hold such as a family and ourselves. We put into factor a family we do not have because we want to be secure. In an article by In-Jo Park and others they said, "Researchers have given increased attention to emotion constructs in career decision-making" (Park 313). This has shown an increase in anxiety because of the stress we put on ourselves about money and stability. We do not think about ourselves and what we want which is a career we love and will respect. Being able to go to work and not dread it is the most rewarding feelings we could ever feel. Our future families would want us to be happy and that's the thought process we should think about when choosing a career.
