1.Write the balanced chemical reaction for the complete neutralization of diprotic oxalic acid (H2C2O4) with sodium hydroxide.

a. Oxalic acid, like KHP, can be used as a primary standard. A solid sample of oxalic acid was dissolved in water and titrated with a 0.2971 M NaOH(aq) solution. If it required 45.62 mL of the NaOH(aq) solution to neutralize the oxalic acid, what was the mass of the oxalic acid sample?

2.An unknown solid acid is either citric acid or tartaric acid. To determine which acid you have, you titrated a sample of the solid with NaOH(aq).

The reactions are:

citric acid: H3C6H5O7(aq) + 3 NaOH(aq) → 3 H2O(l) + Na3C6H5O7(aq)

tartaric acid: H2C4H4O6(aq) + 2 NaOH(aq) → 2 H2O(l) + Na2C4H4O6(aq)

A 0.956 g sample of the acid requires 29.10 mL of 0.513 M NaOH(aq) for titration to the endpoint. What is the unknown acid?
