Question

A 35-year-old man presents with complaints of a sudden onset of pain originating in his right lateral back. He states that he has vomited twice this morning, and he is unable to get comfortable. Examination reveals right costal vertebral angle tenderness (CVAT), hypoactive bowel sounds, and painful testicles on palpation. The MOST appropriate intervention would be to: refer the patient to a urologist. order a kidney, ureter, bladder (KUB) radiograph. order a noncontrast abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) scan. order a renal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan.
