Patient Scenario

Jane Doe arrives in the waiting room of the local ER with her parents Chris and Judy. Jane has complained of pain in her side and the attending physician has determined it is acute appendicitis and begins prepping Jane for an emergency appendectomy to remove the inflamed appendix. During the procedure and while under anesthesia, Jane's EKG shows a reduced heart rate and her coloring begins to become blue. The attending nurse calls for a Code Blue and later admits to being preoccupied with getting the materials prepared for the procedure. Resuscitation efforts are started but there is a delay in these efforts as the physicians disagree on the correct steps to take. Eventually, Jane is stabilized. Chris and Judy, Jane's parents are in the waiting room and hear the Code Blue announcement. Her parents are worried and are asking about Jane's current status. You have been tasked with communicating an update on Jane's status to her parents.
