However, creating added value is just one facet of the job; the firm must be able to appropriate the value created over time to truly benefit.

In other words, any competitive advantage the firm has created with the implementation of its IT-dependent strategic initiative must be defended over time to ensure that the firm will be able to reap the benefits of its innovation.
