After the manufacture of a new computer, an operating system needs to be installed to enhance the functionality of the device.
All elements in the operating system help in making various parts of a computer to function to operate properly (Diffen.com., 2017).
They also act as a linkage between the computer users and the computer devices. Various computer operating systems have been developed and made available in the market.
Android and iOS are the examples of the operating systems that have been developed. Despite the similarities between the two operating systems, they have also marked differences between them (Goadrich& Rogers, 2011).
Comparison of Android and iOS operating systems
The two operating systems are used in the mobile technology including the smartphones and tablets as explained in the article. Android, which is based on Linux resembles the PC in its operations, and it is partlyopen source as compared to the iOS system. An important consideration, therefore, need to be made when choosing the operating system that the mobile device should possess because they differ even in functionality (Goadrich& Rogers, 2011).
Based on the customizability, a lot can be changed when using the Android operating system. The system enables the adjustments to be made, unlike iOS operating system. In the iOS operating system, limited unless broken customizability is allowed thus making the system fixed as compared to Android (Diffen.com., 2017).
The two operating system was also developed by different companies. Android was developed by Google Company whereas, on the other hand, iOS was developed by Apple Company. It is also clear that the source model of the two operating systems also differs. Android is an operating system from the open source. On the other hand, iOS is an operating system derived from the closed source with some few components of the open source.
The two are also derived from different types of operating system family. Android falls in the family of Linux whereas, on the other hand, iOS is an operating system from OS X under UNIX (Goadrich& Rogers, 2011). It also clear that file transfer in the two operating system is different. With Android, the transfer of files is easy. It involves using the USB port and the Android file transfer desktop app. Photos can be transferred directly via the USB without the app.
On the other hand, iOS file transfer is a bit difficult as compared to Android. Media files are transferred by the use of iTunes desktop application. Photos can be transferred out by the use of USB. The two are important applications that have helped in linking the users to the mobile technology.
