Question

Research carried out by Cardiff University in 2017 found that 41% of young adolescents have gambled in the past year. The study, which analysed data collected from 37,363 11-16 year olds at 193 secondary schools in Wales, noted that fruit machines were the most popular. Furthermore, 84% of the young people said that they did not feel bad or guilty about their gambling behaviour. The study revealed that boys were more likely to gamble than girls and that young people from minority ethnic groups and pupils who felt that they did not belong in their school were more likely to gamble and also to feel bad about it. It has been pointed out that, although young people are less likely today to smoke or drink alcohol, gambling seems to be emerging as the new risk behaviour in young people's behaviour.

Furthermore, there is evidence to support the idea that those who gamble in their early life are more likely to become problem gamblers in adulthood.

Provide a detailed explanation that compares how a behaviourist and a cognitive psychological approach would explain why young people become addicted to gambling. (you must focus on the behaviour of the the young person rather than a general description of the theory).
