Assignment Instructions:
- In this assignment, you will have to apply what you have learned in unit 1 and answer questions related to organizing your ideas and creating research plans on different topics
- You will also use your writing and oral skills to create different media presentations and answer questions
Assignment Overview:
- This assignment will cover the following topics discussed in unit 1 of this course
o Individual and adult development theories
o Sex-based similarities and differences
o Impact of norms, values, traditions, and current social trends on an individual
o Demographic trends of various factors individuals and their relationships
Part One:
Question 1:Graphic Organizer
Create a graphic organizer (Venn Diagram, T-Chart,Bubble Chart etc.) that compares and contrasts the ideas and concepts of theoretical perspectives on development by two of the scientists discussed in this unit(Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Abraham Maslow, George Mead etc.). [A1.2, B1.1, B1.3]
Question 2:Create Research Questions
Create a list of three questions that you would want to ask one of the two scientists you chose to include in your answer from Part One - Question 1 about their theories. Make sure to identify the scientist you have chosen in your answer. [A1.3]
Question 3: Create a Research Plan
Choose one of the three questions from your answer in Part One - Question 2 and identify how it is related to the study of families in Canada.
Create a research plan that outlines how you would try to find the answer for your identified research topic. Your research plan should include the elements of a good research plan including identifying a purpose and a method. You should also identify at least three sources of information you want to use for your plan and their types.[A1.1, A2.1]
Part Two:
Question One:
Scoping Research Review Report[A1.1, A1.2]
Write a research report (approximately 1200 words) that explains your findings from the previous parts of this assignment.Your report will focus on answering the following question:
"What factors and theories can help people better understand individual and relationship development?"
Your response should follow the format of a traditional scoping research review report and include the following topics from the previous assignment sections to help answer the question:
o Social and cultural norms, expectations, and values [C1.1]
o Social groups (families, friends, authority figures etc.) [C1.3]
o Social institutions and outlets (media, school, religious institutions etc.)[C1.3]
o Current social trends and challenges faced by individuals [D1.2]
o Evolutionary and social theories developed by scientists [B1.1, B1.3]
o Development of personal conflict between individuals in multiple roles [C1.2]
A scoping research review analyzes research sources based on their relevance to a specific topic. For your response, you will use the three resources you found in question 3 from part one. Each resource should be discussed separately in its own paragraph based on how it relates to your topic. You should also include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph that explains your scoping review topic/focus.
Also discuss in your response how at least one of these theories can be applied to the concept of nature versus nurture as well.[B1.2]
Question Two:
Slideshow Presentation
Create a slideshow presentation that is based on the findings from your research report. Make sure to cover each topic mentioned in the research report requirements and follow proper grammar conventions.
Each topic should have its own slide and your presentation should include an introduction and conclusion slide as well. This slideshow presentation will be used for the main part of this assignment which is an oral report presentation.
Prepare a report presentation script that focuses on the ideas and concepts you focused on in your research report and slideshow presentation. You must use your slideshow presentation in your presentation as a visual aid.
You will book a presentation time with your teacher to present your answer. Your response should be at least 10 minutes long.
Submit a copy of your PowerPoint Presentation and a typed copy of your presentation script along with your live presentation to your teacher.
