Soaking in a warm tub for twenty minutes is an amazing stress reducer for many people. It is also veryaffordable, especially when compared to other stress-relief products. Modern plumbing and hot waterheaters allow almost anyone to take a hot bath at any time. Soaking in hot water helps reduce stress byincreasing blood flow, and it also helps relieve tension in sore muscles. When people get stressed, theirblood vessels tighten up, which slows the flow of blood within the body, and this makes the body's muscles, including the heart, work harder. Since soaking in warm water allows the blood vessels to open up, it helpsblood flow more easily through the body. Soaking in a warm bath also opens up the airways, and this makesit easier to breathe more deeply. Deep breaths increase the supply of oxygen to the blood. The water innatural springs contains minerals and salts, which are thought to aid deep breathing, and so that is whymany people add store-bought salts to bath water. With deep breathing and better blood flow, muscles—even minds—that are stressed can finally relax.
