1. As we have discussed, Hildegard of Bingen was one of the only known composers (not anonymous) of the Middle Ages, and one of first known composers of Western music. Her music was very innovative during her lifetime, and was distinctly different than Gregorian chant. However, her work was largely ignored by scholars for centuries following her death. Why do you think this might have been? (There is no "correct" answer to this question. You will be graded on how well you argue your point, and how effectively you draw from information discussed in lecture.)
