Question: An instructor in a community college auto mechanics class asked his students if they thought that gas consumption, as measured in miles per gallon (mpg), had improved for the Ford Focus in the past 5 years. It was a team project, so they got together and found that on average the Ford Focus was rated at 24.3 mpg in 2010. No data for the current year (2015) were available, so they worked out a random sampling plan and collected the following current consumption data for 12 Ford Focus vehicles: 26.4, 26.5, 26.9, 26.9, 26.4, 26.4, 26.8, 26.9, 26.4, 26.9, 26.8 and 26.4 mpg. The plan was to somehow compare their sample data with the 5-year-old data-can you help these students?
