The temperature of water in a 25 gallon water heater is supposed to be raised from 60 deg F to 125 deg F. Compare the cost of using electricity and natural gas to heat the water. The following information is useful:
1 gal of water = 8.35 pounds
Price of electricity = $.0866/kWh
Price of natural gas= $.74608/ therm
1 therm = 100,000 BTU
