The Task:
Now that we have finished Dracula and have a solid understanding of what happened, know the finer points of vampire lore, and have peace of mind that Dracula himself is truly dead, it is time to use your skills to write about the book.
Your essay should:
• Be 5 paragraphs (but be no more than 3 pages)
• Follow MLA format
o This includes in text citations and a Works Cited
• Discuss a major aspect of the novel (see suggestions below)
Topic suggestions:
1. Van Helsing gives a lot of information about vampires and their abilities. Compare the abilities of vampires in Dracula to a show, book, or movie that includes more contemporary vampires.
2. On several occasions, characters say or do things that are pseudo-Biblical, meaning that these things sound religious, but are not genuinely religious or true. Identify 3 of these moments and analyze their significance.
3. Dracula takes place in a "modern" setting, at least at the time of its writing in the Victorian Period. What about the modern society of Victorian London made it very easy for Dracula to exist there?
4. Renfield, as we learn, becomes some sort of slave to Dracula, but he is only ever seen in his cell (Besides when he escapes). Is the character of Renfield necessary to the book?
5. A topic of your choosing that would sufficiently analyze the text of Dracula in a scholarly way.
