Most of the American writers were literary pioneers include; Willa Cather, Emily Dickinson and William Faulkner. William Faulkner was a pioneer in the literary modernism and dramaticallywhich was diverging from the forms and the various structures which were traditionally used in the novels before his time. This led him to be awarded NobelPrize in literature. Phyllis Wheatleysaw captivity as a fortunate after being taken to America. This is clearly evidenced through the cat of being treated s daughter and was raised in the education and prosperity. Olaudah Equiano instead saw the beauty of the Africa in the hands of the captors and the kindness which was demonstrated by the ever-changing owners.Phyllis Wheatley feels thankful in the white society since she wastreated like a daughter and offered with education and prosperity. This possibility changes my assessmentin his narrative of viewing orportrayingAfrica as beauty in the hands or leadership of captors. Therefore this changes my assessment in viewing Africa as beauty since Equianowas not born in Africa and therefore he lacked enoughinformation about the beauty of the Africa.
4. One of the most quoted lines in Thoreau's work occurs in "Economy": The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." Discuss this statement and Thoreau's observation that desperation is found in the city, the country, and even in our "games and amusement."
The statement "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation" indicates that most of the menusually become desperate due their feeling that when people choose simplicity they do not buy bigger houses. Therefore this statement simply implies or indicates that men are not enjoying their lives well.

One of the PowerPoint slides contains the following assertion concerning "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow": "The story may represent Irving's view of what the world is becoming-rough, a bit uncouth, etc." Using examplesshow how this statement can apply to BOTH "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle."
