Paper

Describe in detail one important scene from BOTH Nisa and The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Compare each of these examples from the books to two experiences from your own life (i.e. compare an incident from one book to one life experience and an incident from the other to another life experience). Using key concepts perspectives from the course, discuss how an anthropological perspective might be useful in understanding events/experiences/relationships in your own experience.

Some tips:

Make sure your examples from the books illustrate good knowledge of the books. You will definitely lose points (as people did on the first paper) if your examples are too superficial to demonstrate that you actually read the book.

Make sure that the experiences from your own life are selected to be able to say something that relates to meaningful course content. You don't need to bare your soul, but on the other hand, saying something very superficial like "In Nisa they ate. In class we mention food. I also eat" is not going to be the basis of a very deep discussion and will not lead to a very strong paper.

You are free to draw on whatever concepts from the class that you wish, but aim to tie them to main themes (e.g. cultural relativism; appreciation of diversity; analyzing human life in a holistic way). You are not required to discuss any specific concept, but talking about a recurring theme from the course will lead to a better paper than focusing on something that was mentioned once for a few minutes. You may talk about multiple concepts, so if there are very specific concepts that you would like to discuss a good strategy is to tie them into broader themes.
