Assignment:
Compare two different types of societies discussed of your textbook. What stands out to you about the similarities/differences between these types of societies?
I want to highlight band societies and urban societies from our textbook (Campbell et al., 2014). Band societies tend to be a group of people that is smaller in size, and they tend to live nomadic lives as a group on the edges of larger communities (Campbell et al., 2014). Whereas urban societies tend to be larger in size and the people of urban societies take up a greater amount of physical space than in band societies (Campbell et al., 2014). Band societies prefer living in a more nature-based environment. While Urban societies are large in size as a whole, they are broken up into different sections of people based on occupations, religions, and/or economic status (Campbell et al., 2014). Band Societies also regularly move around based on what resources are available (Campbell et al., 2014). Urban societies stay in one place and the people that make the society up adjust their life to the resources available in the same place, year-round. In a band society, the vibe is very intimate as each group member has a close and personal relationship with one another (Campbell et al., 2014). With urban societies being so large in size, there is a lack of intimacy and closeness like with band societies.
