Infographic: Communicating Organization Development to a Lay Audience

Regardless of your role in any group or organization of which you are a part, you can apply behavioral science as a change agent in that organization. Now that you have read the textbook chapters and reviewed the OD Network video, think about how you can convey the basic idea of OD to a lay audience.  A key challenge is how to articulate the process, outcomes, and value of OD to various stakeholders.

To do so, you will create an Organization Development "infographic" for a lay audience.

  1. Develop your own working definition of OD. The idea here is to put the definition from the research into your own words. It may help to think about how you might talk about it if you were asked about OD by someone in your organization or at a networking event.
  2. Create a powerpoint infographic to depict OD, with accompanying talking points in the note page section of the slide.
    • The talking points for the infographic should detail what you would say in the conversation to explain the graphic.
    • Your definition of OD should be written in the talking points.
    • Your talking points should be based on what we know from behavioral science and what a stakeholder in an organization needs to know about OD from their perspective.

As you create the "infographic," consider how you can communicate what OD does, why it matters, and the results the organization can expect by using good OD practices grounded in behavioral science. Remember, a picture paints a thousand words!
