Firstly, read Chapter through once and understand the argument. What are some commonalities between gender and postcolonial histories? Why did Tosh decide to discuss them in the same chapter?

Secondly, watch "Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: The danger of a single story," while taking Chap 10 into consideration. Analyze the preconceived notions of Africa, as Adichie describes, as a consequence of European colonialism, and discuss how you think the main argument of her talk can be realized. Do you think "many stories matter" (17:38) and "stories can be used to empower and to humanize" (17:45)? If so, as a historian, how do you think you can forster a society with "a balance of stories" (14:33)?
