Consider a motor vehicle department, where customers start by waiting in a common line for a clerk to check their documents for accuracy. Two document checkers are employed, and the average service time is 4 minutes per customer. After this check, some customers leave the facility while others require service for: (a) getting or renewing a driver’s license, (b) registering an automobile, or (c) another (called “other”) transaction. Three servers assist those with a driver’s license issue (the average service time is 16 minutes), two servers assist those with a car registration issue (the average service time is 8 minutes), and one server helps those with “other” issues (the average service time is 12 minutes). On an average day, 300 customers arrive at the facility (it is opened for 10 hours daily). Assume that each customer requires just one of these three services. Currently, the queue sizes are: 24 customers for the document check service, 15 customers for the driver’s license service, 12 customers for the car registration service, and 6 customers for the other service.
