Assignment - Make a Comment on role of The Advanced Public Health Nurse
The role of the advanced public health nurse within the practicum setting is to provide direct care to patients, families, and communities. The nurse also provides education and support to staff members and assists in developing and implementing health promotion and disease prevention programs (Diversus Health, 2021). Nursing in this setting is responsible for coordinating appointments, conducting nursing assessments, medication management, and providing education to the clients in these programs (Diversus Health, 2021). The nurse may also conduct research and participate in policy development. The nurse works collaboratively with other health care professionals and organizations to ensure that the highest quality, holistic care is provided to all individuals. The nurse uses various skills to assess the health of individuals and populations, provide counseling and support, and promote healthful lifestyles (Diversus Health, 2021).
The overall practicum goals focus on increasing my understanding of mental health and crisis services, social determinants of health, and interprofessional collaboration (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2015).
Become familiar with psychiatric disorders, presenting symptoms, and the anticipated course of treatment. In this method, I will be capable of understanding the proper nursing interventions for various psychiatric illnesses. To hone my clinical abilities, I'll ensure adequate information from the offered reference sources. By the conclusion of the term, I should be familiar with many of the disorders and be capable of identifying needs for continued care and community services available to determine the appropriate services for a referral. This aligns with Standard 2: Assessment- Population Diagnosis and Priorities and Standard 3: Outcomes Identification (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2015). Accurately performing mental health assessments and understanding the priorities of care will further assist in determining the plan of care and expected outcomes for this vulnerable population (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2015).
