Indeed, nurse leaders and managers have a significant role to play in reengineering the healthcare system. The healthcare costs are on the rise, the population is rapidly aging and fewer and fewer people are joining the nursing workforce. These are some of the issues that nurse leaders and managers need to address. The good thing is that these healthcare leaders have the ability to bring the needed changes. For instance, nurse managers can work closely with learning institutions to recruit more nurses into the field. Nurse leaders, on the other hand, can use their influence in areas such as shared vision to ensure that these newly recruited nurses remain part of the workforce. Thus, addressing the issues facing nursing practice call for both the competencies of a nurse leader and a manager.
