The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) defines diversity like this: "the collective mixture of differences and similarities that includes for example, individual and organizational characteristics, values, beliefs, experiences, backgrounds, preferences, and behaviors."

SuperSaver Foods has recently hired a new administrative assistant who is disabled. Mary was in a car wreck and is now wheelchair bound. She has a great work ethic and years of experience as an administrative assistant. After the first few weeks, Mary noticed that her peers and manager do not communicate with her in a manner consistent with others in the office. She has also noticed not being included in office social functions, like company picnics and lunches. In addition, Mary feels more isolated from her manager who spends more time with her peers. Mary is also the only physically disabled employee in her department.

Identify the diversity concern and provide solutions to correct this issue within the workplace. What specifics actions do you recommend? How would you work with Mary to make her feel welcome and accepted?
