Question

A child has been admitted to the pediatric unit with diarrhea. The nurse must collect a stool specimen for ova and parasites. The nurse knows that the proper procedure must be followed for detection of the ova and parasites. The proper procedure includes: Only use stool from a bed pan. Place the stool specimen in a sterile container. Refrigerate the specimen until it can be taken to the laboratory. Transport the stool specimen to the laboratory promptly. Use tongue blades to separate the stool from urine.
