Valerie Jones is a 78-year-old lady who was found on the floor by her daughter. She was coherent but covered in bright red vomit. The daughter states that her mother is in general good health. Mrs. Jones has never had any cardiac or pulmonary illnesses. The daughter informs that Mrs. Jones is taking ibuprofen 600 mg three times a day. Recently Mrs. Jones was admitted because of abdominal pain and tarry stools. At that time an endoscopy confirmed a duodenal ulcer. An IV line is started with normal saline infusing at 100 mL/hour. The daughter is in the waiting room and is concerned about the status of her mother.
