Level 1: Cognitive Identity Leadership

Self-reflection questions related to the cognitive level of identity leadership. Please answer the following questions as best as possible.

1. Which professional identity(ies) do you currently identify with (current or future role).
2. Which other identities do you have? Try to identify at least 3 different identities you have (e.g. accountant, environmentalist, a creative, football coach, a dad).
3. Explain which behaviors/beliefs/norms change when you switch between the above-mentioned identities.
4. Which social groups (have) impact(ed) your self-identity the most?
5. Describe your 5 core values (which define who you are).
6. Explain why these values are important to you.
7. To which extent do these core values connect to your above-mentioned identities? Do different values connect to different identities?
8. Which (self-limiting) beliefs might hold you back from believing you are / can be an organizational leader? Be as reflective as possible.
9. What could you do about these self-limiting beliefs about self? How can you change the internal dialogue or mental schemas using identity now you have gone through these two leadership modules?
10. Which identities would you be willing to 'flirt' with? In other words, which new identities would you be willing to try and why?
11. How could you make use of 'identity switching' to influence behavior or create a sense of belonging in an organization? Give a practical example.
