Question

Provision 3 in The Code of Ethics for Nurses explains the importance of confidentiality of patient information. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), describes this provision. HIPPA refers to ensuring the confidentiality of patient medical records through all types of communication, such as verbal, written, and electronic (Perry Black, 2024). This is required by the immediate clinicians caring for the patient such as physicians, nurses, and UAPs, while it's also required by all medical personnel and ancillary staffing. Ancillary staffing includes pharmacists, phlebotomists, x-ray techs, etc. It is essential to understand that this is not only expected at work but also in one's personal life, or non-work setting.
