Task
Wigan & Leigh College isa large company providing a popular cross-platform games engine and associated development environment. As part of a new marketing strategy to encourage and develop awareness of game development and game programming to potential Computing Science graduates they wish to commission a series of browser-based games loosely based on the notions of coding and/orgame creation that contain the Separation Technologies branding. The specific marketing goal is to raise awareness of the Separation Technologies products and encourage new users to try it.
Your task is to develop and refinea game concept and design for Separation Technologies. The game is to be designed so that it can be implemented in 2D using Unity and C#. You can use multiple perspectives and play styles in your game, but at least part of it should include ‘platform' style gameplay.
You must develop your own game conceptfrom this original general themeand present your design in the form of a 2000 worddesign report (word count of +/- 10% is permitted). Your report should include the following criteria:
• A Brief description of your game concept:Briefly outlineany key characters, game world and objectives of the game.
• Detailed description of your games core mechanics and how you plan to keep your game balanced:Specify the rules of the game, how much health (if any) do your character and enemies have? How many lives do they have? How does the player complete the current level? How do they score points? This section should be detailed enough so that a programmer could implement a prototype of the game based on this description.
• A Discussion of the Perspectives (views) you have decided to use in your game and how this relates to user experience during gameplay: Are you using top down, side scrolling, single screen etc. discuss alternatives and state why your chosen perspective best fits your concept.
• Discussion and sketches illustrating the overall theme and Interface Layout/ Visual Feedback Elements (sketches may be included in an appendix) different sketches should be provided for each perspective used in the game: You may wish to include sketches of the same concept but with different perspectives. Your sketches should clearly show the feedback elements you have decided upon and contain annotation. Other sketches could include key characters in the game and level design. You may include these in an appendix outside of your main report if you wish
• Discussion of how your game concept and design supports emotional elements of fun as defined in the 4 fun keys: You should critically evaluate your designs by giving justifications for your key design choices with reference to the 4 fun keys and your target users. You can discuss to what extent your game focuses on and supports the different types of fun, and what emotions you hope to elicit from the player.
• Discussion of how branding and brand placement within the application will fit in with the marketing goal and any monetization possibilities:Discuss the alternatives available, what approach you decided to take and how this is reflected in your game design.
