Assignment Two: Dashboard Development
Development Task
1. Assignment Aims
To gain experience in designing and developing a dashboard involving various charts/data visualizations.
Learning Outcome 1. Ability to create visual artefacts using advanced and cutting edge visualisation toolkits, software and interactive visualisation libraries
Learning Outcome 2. Initiate data-driven decision making processes by visually exploring and cross-referencing visual inference models;
Learning Outcome 3.Design interactive visualisation interfaces and dashboards based on the principles of computational modelling, cognitive science, graphic and visual design art in particular application domain;
Assessment Brief
Background
The ability to create visualisation using a tool and build a dashboard is a fundamental skill for learners. You will be able to significantly deepen your levels of understanding and develop your skill by developing a dashboard that can be used to demonstrate your skill and your knowledge.
Individual assignment scenario
You need to research data and an area (domain) to find visualisation requirements.Based on your findings, you need to analyse data and build an appropriate model to feed to your data visualisations. Then implement a dashboard with different visualisations which you are required to critically demonstrate the appropriateness of chosen dashboard/interface design specifications and its evaluation methods.
Assignment specification
In the laboratory session in Week 10 you will walk your tutors through the identified problem and solution design approach that you have selected for the task. This walkthrough will enable you to receive feedback on your assignment work to date.
Then you need to present your complete work demonstrating the working dashboard along with the technical report (700 words).
Assessment approach and criteria
Implementing Data Visualisation dashboard/interface: Quality of implementation, technical correctness and critical evaluation of the specified benchmark.
Assignment two is the final assessment for this module.
• Interface/dashboard design
• Interface/dashboard implementation
• Software Demonstration and Presentation
• Writing Report (700 words) to justify design and implementation approach
