A number of cloud service and deployment models are available, and organisations have to make appropriate selections, to ensure that they make optimal use of cloud computing.
This discussion invites you to research and reflect on specific cloud service and deployment models that have been used by known organisations.
To prepare for this discussion, consider the following questions:

• Research online sources, including news articles related to cloud service and deployment models in use
• Reflect on your own personal experiences with cloud computing
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you present, and discuss, the cloud service and deployment models that have been used by a known commercial organisation. You can use an example from any business, charitable or government sector. Your write-up should describe the specific service and deployment models in use by the organisation, and why these were chosen.
Discuss any benefits accruing to the organisation from using a cloud-based system and point to any aspects of the service or deployment models that give comparative or competitive advantage to the organisation. You will be expected to cite academic and/or practitioner references to underpin your write-up.
Discussion 2: Virtualisation offered by mainstream cloud services providers
Mainstream cloud services providers use a range of virtualisation schemes within their cloud systems. Some of these are standardised whilst others are proprietary schemes.
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you characterise the types of virtualisations offered by at least two mainstream cloud services providers within their cloud systems. Your discussion should be reasonably concise and should present key virtualisation approaches and components used within the provider's systems. Point out the key features of the virtualisation schemes offered that enhance cloud services provisions for these providers.
Discussion 3: Network Virtualisation approaches used by IaaS cloud services providers
Mainstream cloud services providers use a variety of network virtualisation schemes within their cloud systems to support provisioning of network-attached resources for IaaS operation.
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you present the main features of the network virtualisation scheme used by a commercial cloud services IaaS provider. Your write-up should outline salient architectural features of the scheme used and should discuss how the provider's approach to network virtualisation helps enhance overall cloud services provision for clients.
Discussion 4: Cloud services PaaS database and data-warehouse management schemes
Amazon Redshift, RDS and DynamoDB are AWS PaaS products that have been developed to make it less onerous for clients to manage both commercial SQL and NoSQL database types. Clients are able to offload routing database maintenance to the PaaS subsystems layer.

The security of data held on cloud systems has generally been a source of some concern, particularly given the spate of recent cyber-attacks and commercial security breaches.
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you present and discuss two security challenges facing commercial cloud services providers. Outline, using suitable illustrative examples, measures and approaches that have been used by CSPs to solve or mitigate these security challenges.
Your post may find it beneficial to refer to structured taxonomies for cloud-based security factors, domains and considerations, such as those put forward by the Security Alliance (CSA) and NIST organisations.
Discussion 7: Using Cloud Design Patterns (CDPs)
As was discussed in the lectures, cloud design patterns provide structured reproducible approaches to cloud systems development, based on several use cases and design scenarios.
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you present and critically discuss key attributes of two cloud design patterns offered by commercial cloud services providers. Explain what use cases the design patterns address and how they operate. You should select cloud design patterns that did not feature in the lectures or notes for the week.
Discussion 8: Cloud Services Standards and Regulatory Compliance
Cloud services providers have historically sought to ensure that their cloud systems adhere to industry standards and are compliant with mainstream regulatory regimes.
Requirement
Create an initial post in which you explain why and how commercial cloud services providers such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure embed standards and regulatory compliance into their cloud operations.
