Question 

As a nursing student, during my clinical duties in the community I was assign to take care of patient from different cultural background who feared and hesitate taking medical treatments. I took care of a patient who had gone to traditional healer otherwise known as tandok, using the animal horn for rabies and tetanus removal from wound. By applying or using the Leininger's theory, I took time to understand my patients to developed a better understanding of their cultural beliefs, values and to know more them. I had open conversation and asked them their cultural practices to get an insight into who they were, which helped me better understand how it shaped the healthcare choices for themselves. It allowed me to create a care plan for my patient, which respected their cultural wants and desires but also addressed the medical issues at hand. I found out that the patient prefers natural remedies which her ancestors also practiced, and together we were able to add this in parallel with the medical treatment, with the approval of the health care team.
