Classify each of the following interspecific interactions and identify the effect (+/-) of the interaction on each species, i.e., write "Dogs (+)" if the interaction benefits dogs, or "Cats (-)" if the interaction has a negative effect on cats. Also, don't forget to write down what kind of interspecific interaction is being described.

a) Once conifers form a full canopy during forest succession, ferns cannot survive on the dark forest floor.
