Classical criminological theories suggest that individual's decision to participate in deviant behavior is based on free thought and consideration of pleasure of act versus the pain of punishment if caught. While similar in several ways, neoclassical criminological theories expand upon the classical viewpoint.

Select one the following neoclassical theories: (1) rational-choice, (2) deterrence, or (3) routine activities. Need help explaining the premise of the selected neoclassical theory.
